[Chris Everington]

The contrast between yesterday and today is dramatic. Yesterday, Rob and Diane were the pin-up couple for happy straight relationships. Today, they could be doing a promotional commercial for a divorce lawyer.

Greg knows something about what is going on, as he warned me off when I started to ask Rob about it. I’m not happy letting it go for too much longer, though. A couple of weeks ago, Rob had discreetly asked me if I’d be the best man at his wedding, and naturally I’d said I would. He then told me that he was almost positive that Diane was the one for him, and he just needed the right moment to ask her.

The way Diane set up last night’s dinner implied to me that she felt the same way about Rob as he feels about her. All last night, I was hoping that Rob would take the chance offered, and propose. But the way she’s acting this morning, a split is more likely than a marriage.

Did he propose, and make a balls-up of it? Is that why she’s gone cold and he’s busy trying to make up for whatever he did wrong?
