Rambling
On
How can one be in a crowd
but be so alone
How can one own a house yet never have a home
No wounds to be seen anywhere but agony abounds
Noise and chaos everywhere but silence surrounds
How can one have a friendship but disregard the friend
How can one war forever only to give up at the end
Courage and strength are qualities that are held in high regard
But one can only battle so long before they go down hard
How can one stand steadfast in the face of adversity
How can one accept that things will be what they will be
Being steady and being strong isn’t at all what it’s made out
For in the moment of failure do we all rant and shout
How can one man face his own rampant mortality
How can one cope with fear when it’s realized they aren’t free
Even the mightiest of we humans have their limits set
And mindful of these limits be, or pay if you forget
How can one live their life cloistered in their little shell
How can one just look around and believe that all is well
Once we could sleep safe at night, no trouble in our head
Now it seems we can’t sleep at all, afraid we’ll wake up dead
How can one simply look askance and say, “I don’t believe”
How can one ignore the facts, ignore what we’ve achieved:
Dream sweet dreams while you can, for soon it will be known
Night terrors that have taken flesh walk right into your home
The world today is a different place; on that we can agree
But to allow us to be silenced; what a tragedy that would be
God isn’t our enemy, but instead it’s the “Christian” right
Know you well the battlefield; know to whom you take the fight
Struggle against discrimination; Never quit or give up the fight
Because one of these days, someday soon, we will marry whom we might
Struggle on and on and on my friends; the war has just begun
John Paul, Bush and Phelps will know futility when we’ve won
